WISCONSIN PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE AND CLINICS (WISPIC)
Outpatient care that combines the Department’s research and clinical missions is centered in the Wisconsin Psychiatric Institute and Clinics (WisPIC), a free-standing UW clinic located approximately five miles from UW Hospital on the west side of Madison.
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic offers a comprehensive array of diagnostic and treatment services for youth ages birth through 18 years of age and their families. Individualized treatment recommendations are developed for each child based upon the results of the diagnostic assessment and needs of the child/family. Available treatment modalities include several types of individual, group, and family psychotherapies; psychopharmacology; and educational programs.
Treatment is available for the full range of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar, mood disorders, adjustment disorder, personality disorders, attention deficit disorder / ADHD, and other issues. Additionally, specialty services in the following areas are offered in the Child & Adolescent clinical operations:
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents
- Child and Adolescent Anxiety Disorders Program
- Parent/Infant and Early Childhood Clinic
- A variety of additional specialty groups
A broad range of individual and group psychiatric, psychological, and psychosocial treatments are offered at this site. Clinical services may be provided by psychiatrists, psychologists, masters prepared social workers, licensed professional counselors, supervised psychiatric residents, psychology interns, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses.

EAST CLINIC
This clinic is co-located with pediatric primary care and several other specialty care clinics serving children and adolescents. It is located near The American Center on the east side of Madison, near Sun Prairie. At East, we offer a variety of specialties for child and adolescent treatment provided by Child/Adolescent Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Master’s level practitioners. We offer treatment for children age 5+ and their families. On staff, we have therapists who specialize in numerous areas such as Anxiety, Depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, PTSD, Trauma-Related Disorders, ADHD, Eating Disorders, and OCD. Modalities include, but are not limited to CBT, TFCBT, and DBT. Individual and family therapy are the main types of therapy. We also have a clinician who is fluent in Spanish at this clinic.

Our Middleton location opened in 2019 and expanded in 2020 to increase access to outpatient mental health treatment services. At Deming, we offer psychotherapy for children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. On staff are psychologists, health psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers, and professional counselors who specialize in working with youth. Among the conditions treated are Anxiety, Depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, PTSD, Trauma-Related Disorders, ADHD, Eating Disorders, and OCD. Modalities include, but are not limited to CBT, TFCBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry service at the American Family Children’s Hospital provides consultation and liaison support to pediatric providers and specialists. We provide compassionate, culturally-sensitive, developmentally informed, and family-centered evaluations of patients who have emotional or behavioral health needs while being cared for at AFCH. We are proud to work with an amazing array of dedicated professionals who make AFCH a place of healing.
Our team includes child psychiatrists, psychiatry residents and fellows, medical students, and close collaboration with the social workers and case managers at AFCH, the Health Psychology team, and the wonderful Child Life specialists. Common clinical situations are safety evaluations, coping with medical conditions, diagnostic evaluations, and managing the impacts of illness on mental health.

The Unity Point Health Meriter Child & Adolescent Psychiatry inpatient unit is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of children and teens who require inpatient psychiatric care. The inpatient unit serves young people ages 6-18 experiencing severe behavioral health challenges.
The 20-bed inpatient facility offers:
